What is an apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships are training programmes which let you ‘earn while you learn’. They allow you to get a qualification as well as hands-on experience through a combination of on the job and classroom training.

What are the benefits of an apprenticeship?

One of the greatest benefits of doing an apprenticeship is that you earn money while you’re learning. That means you’re employed by Veolia and are getting paid to train. When you consider the high costs of going to university, you can see why apprenticeships are so popular. Our apprentices also tell us they enjoy studying this way because they get to learn in a much more hands-on way than they’d be able to in a classroom or lecture hall.

Does being an apprentice allow me to progress in the future?

Yes, the journey doesn’t end once you’ve completed your apprenticeship. A City and Guilds study shows that 33% of employers have seen apprentices reach management positions within their company and over 50% of employers said it took five years or less for an apprentice to reach such a position.

How old do I have to be and how long does an apprenticeship take?

You have to be aged between 16 to 64 years and they take a minimum of 12 months to complete. Apprenticeships usually last between 1 to 3 years depending on the level of apprenticeship.

Please note that for our LGV Apprenticeships, you must be aged 18 or older.

Are apprenticeships only for low-level skilled jobs?

No. With the introduction of degree apprenticeships, you can do an apprenticeship with Veolia from level 2 (GCSE equivalent) through to level 7 (Masters equivalent).

Will doing an apprenticeship affect my pay or job title if I already work for Veolia?

Absolutely not! Your job title, role and pay will remain the same. You will simply be developing your skills as part of continuous professional development.

What will I be paid?

Pay varies depending on the job position. More information on this shall be given at the interview stage.
