Health & Safety

All Veolia Environnement subsidiaries operate in safety critical environments while the expressed will of the Group obliges managers to be aware of the health risks that their employees might confront in a normal working day.

In addition legislation - both UK and European - is becoming more stringent and penalties for non-compliance can be extremely heavy, if not catastrophic.

2008: World Safety Year

Veolia still sees too many accidents among its employees and customers and on public thoroughfares each year. Because the company's activities expose employees to real risks, ensuring safety means promoting individual responsability.

The CEO Henri Proglio and the Executive Committee have chosen to make 2008 World Safety Yea at Veolia Environnement in a bid to improve awareness of these issues.

Risk Assessment

Risk assessment is the careful examination of what, at work, could cause harm to people. Precautions can then be taken to prevent harm. Accidents and ill-health can ruin lives, affect the business through lost output, damaged machinery, and insurance costs may increase. We are legally required to assess risks in the workplace.

IOSH Managing Safely

The Health and Safety Executive generally recommendthat all managers, in proving competence in the management of health and safety at work, should have passed the IOSH recognised "Managing Safely" course.
